The Delicious And Nutritious Rocky Road Protein Bar

The Delicious And Nutritious Rocky Road Protein Bar

Proper nutrition is paramount to health and longevity. If you're like most of us though, it can be hard to stick to eating strictly healthy foods especially when hunger starts gnawing at your willpower! Ghrelin is the hormone released by your brain that says "HEY, YOU ARE HUNGRY!" When that happens, it's important to have some healthy snacks nearby to get our brain, and our stomach, to quiet down! Enter our delicious recipe for a totally homemade rocky road protein bar with only 5 ingredients!

Whey Isolate Chocolate Protein

Whey protein is a result of the cheese-making process, the liquid left over after the cheese curds are removed. Whey Isolate is the final result of processing the whey protein to remove excess fat and lactose. This makes it almost entirely pure protein that is easy on the stomach and much quicker to digest than solid proteins. Whey Isolate is a great choice for anyone who needs a quick protein snack, whether it is after a workout or to get that Ghrelin monster under control!

VitaFiber Syrup

VitaFiber Syrup is a low-calorie sweetener made primarily from Isomaltooligosaccharides, which sound terrifying but are really anything but. IMOs are vegan-friendly plant fiber derivatives that aren't fully absorbed by the small intestine which is what makes them low calorie. These fibers have a sweet taste and are a great binding agent. Since they're complex carbohydrates and not fully absorbed during digestion, they don't create a high insulin response like eating other sugary foods will. This makes them a great choice for a low-calorie sweetener.

Crushed Walnuts

Walnuts are a nutritional powerhouse and one of the most nutrient-dense nuts you can eat. They taste great, have a satisfying crunch, and are packed with antioxidants. They are also the only nut that contains significant amounts of alpha-linolenic acid. This omega-3 polyunsaturated fat is great for heart health and studies suggest it has a positive effect on brain health and memory.

Cocoa Powder

Cocoa powder tastes great and is loaded with polyphenols, which are powerful antioxidants that have an anti-inflammatory effect when consumed. Cocoa is also packed with flavonoids which studies suggest can lower blood pressure and improve heart health and blood circulation. Cocoa is truly a one-two punch of nutrition and flavor.

Mini Marshmallows

While not strictly a healthy food, marshmallows are high in gelatin and collagen which are good for digestive and skin health. Our vegan friends will need to pass on this last ingredient, or use a vegan-friendly alternative.
